There’s never a dull moment at Union Elementary! PTSO fills Union’s students’ school experience with memorable events, celebrating benchmark moments like birthdays, academic achievement, and artistic endeavors. We not only learn together, but we laugh and play together, take on new challenges, work together to raise funds, and plan collections to support our school and the community in which we live.

PTSO enriches and enhances the Union experience through a variety of events:

After-School Programs

Make new friends, try something new and join your classmates after school to enrich your education in fun, unique ways! Union offers three sessions of after-school Ppograms in fall, winter, and spring, and a basketball program that runs December-March. Programs may include volleyball, sports of all sorts, keyboarding, cheer, board game club, Picasso art, archery, garage band, drama club, and many, many more! Registration is online during advertised registration periods. Don't miss out on the fun!

Birthday Celebrations

Celebrate your student’s birthday with a lunch date in the Union Café! On the first Thursday of each month, our birthday students receive a special, free birthday lunch of Bosco Sticks with marinara sauce, tater tots, kiwi-strawberry slushy, milk and a cookie, along with a special birthday gift! Students and their guests are offered special seating on the decorated Union stage. Families are invited to attend and join in the celebration. August and September birthdays are celebrated in September. April and May birthdays are celebrated in April. June and July birthdays are celebrated in May.

Book Fairs

Twice a year, the Media Center is converted into a booklovers paradise, stocked with Scholastic books geared specifically for Union’s students. Shop until you drop! Proceeds from the fair go toward adding resources to the library’s shelves and stocking classrooms with books by grade level. One fair is held during Fall Festival; the other is during Celebration of the Arts Night.

Box Tops Classroom Competitions

Clip and save Box Tops for Education from hundreds of your favorite products to trade in for money for Union. PTSO collects Box Tops twice a year for a classroom competition, but you can send them in with your child anytime throughout the year. Winners of the classroom competitions celebrate with a sweet treat.

Celebration of the Arts Night

We have so many artistic students at Union Elementary and this night is designed to showcase and showoff their talents! The hallways will be adorned with beautiful artwork created by our students and the stage will be filled with musical talents from individual students, drama club, 6th grade band, and our very own garage band! Save room for tasty desserts, served during performances as a sweet addition to the evening. Union’s stars will shine as they share their amazing gifts and talents at Celebration of the Arts Night!

Fall Festival

The don’t-miss event of the year is Union’s Fall Festival, held one Friday evening each October. If you can only make one event this school year, this is the one! Fall Festival is a full-blown carnival that takes over the entire building with games, prizes, dinner, treats, fun activities, Book Fair, raffle baskets and more! Funds from this event go toward support of PTSO programs and to enrich and enhance the Union Elementary School experience.

Family Fun Nights

Share an affordable night of fun with your whole family at Union on select Friday nights, while getting to know other Union families. Movie Night, Bingo Night, and Puzzle Night are fun themes for three Family Fun Nights each school year. See you there!

Future Hawks Nights

Celebrate Union’s connection to Lakota East High School at a high school football and basketball game each season. All East feeder schools gather for pre-game fun, a parade on the field and court, and recognition for their Hawk pride. Watch for the Union banner at the big games to find the fun!

Grandparents’ Day

Grandparents Day is in September when we welcome grandparents or other special family members and friends to come to lunch with their Union student. The children feel special having a guest and showing off their school to their family members. The grandparents enjoy seeing what schools are like nowadays and meeting some of their grandchild's friends. Join us in the Union Café for lunch – purchase a hot lunch at school, pack a brown bag from home, or bring something special from your child’s favorite restaurant for a meal to remember!

Hawks Nights Out

At Union, we study hard, but we play hard, too! Hawks Nights Out give Union students a playdate with their school friends and a group rate to the area’s hot spots for kids: Get Air, Niederman Farm, Main Event and more. Bring the whole family out to play on Hawks Nights Out!

Honor Roll Celebrations

PTSO holds three yearly Honor Roll parties to recognize students who have achieved Honor Roll status. We always need an extra hand making popcorn or other snacks or hanging decorations. Plus, we get to celebrate with the kids for a job well done!

PIE (Progress in Education) Awards

Progress in Education (PIE) Awards events are held two times each year, in December and May. Teachers choose students who have excelled in an area of study who are honored with a breakfast ceremony.

Restaurant Nights

Enjoy a night out with your family on designated dates at local restaurants that give a percentage of their proceeds back to support Union when we present flyers at purchase. The Cone, Chick-Fil-A, Moe’s, Papa John’s, and other local eateries partner with us to feed our teachers on Conference Nights and allow us to fund special needs at the school. Watch here and in your child’s Friday folder for details on upcoming Restaurant Nights dates, times, and locations.

Sixth Grade Social

This event is designed to celebrate our hardworking 6th grade students, to thank them for their model years as Union students, and to wish them well while they head off to junior high school. The Social is planned after school near the end of the school year. Music, dancing, food, and fun are all included. Invitations are sent out to all students. A small admission fee may apply, but fun is guaranteed… along with plenty of pictures for lasting memories!

Spirit Fridays

Held on several Fridays each year, Spirit Fridays are when students show off their Union spirit! Students wear their Spirit Wear in school colors – red and black. They also show off their generosity toward our community’s members in need by collecting canned goods and personal items to be donated to Reach Out Lakota, an organization that offers assistance to local families. Our students are proud to be at Union and excited to give back to the community where we live.

Walk-a-Thon puts the “fun” back into “fundraising!” This fundraiser encourages students to walk, hop, limbo, skip, tip toe and more while raising money to support Union’s students and teachers for the school year. Participating students have the opportunity to win prizes as they raise money. Local businesses partner with Union’s PTSO with donations of goods and services. Every student gets a t-shirt and a sno-cone and everybody has a great time at Walk-a-Thon!
